What people are saying…

This title role has been my absolute favorite original opera to ever workshop, period. The libretto speaks to every part of my black experience. It is the first of its kind to address ancestral time travel and interracial marriage in the political eye. The juxtaposing of fine arts with several unlikely cultures and characters is stunning, and it’s not even finished! The music is indescribably compelling, hyper gorgeous and unlike anything I’ve heard on a stage.

Mme. Theremin was made all the more exciting because the work exposed me to historical facts about New York City I did not know. As for Mama Augustine—who wouldn’t want to play a powerful woman with mystical connections on more than one plane? Workshopping this piece with the extraordinary group of artists assembled here in New York remains one of my most cherished musical experiences.
— Chantelle Grant (Mama Augustine, NYC Workshop)
MADAME THEREMIN is smart and witty, powerful and beautiful, and a profoundly moving piece.  Through beautiful music, a snappy libretto, and an important story; it is an opera that both engages and entertains its listener.  The creators have worked hard and successfully to recreate its time and place as well as capture the culture of the moment and its characters.  Working on this piece was a true joy and a privilege, and I hope more and more people get to hear and experience it.
